Luton Town dump Plymouth out of Carling Cup

Luton defied their status as the rock bottom club in the Football League, as they dumped Championship side Plymouth out of the Carling Cup.

Rossi Jarvis opened the scoring in the 15th minute, blasting home a right-footed half volley from 12 yards.

Substitute Tristan Plummer sealed the win 11 minutes from time, when Asa Hall’s shot was parried into his path.

Jason Puncheon hit the crossbar for Plymouth, with a minute from full-time remaining, but Luton comfortably held on.

Green Lounge bids for extended opening hours

A new bar which faces onto St George’s Square in Luton town centre is hoping councillors back its bid for longer opening hours.

The Green Lounge, formerly known as Buck Wilds on Manchester Street, wants to stay open until 4.30am every day, including weekdays.

On Thursday, August 14, members of Luton Borough Council’s licensing committee will decide whether to grant the venue’s wish.

Luton selected for UK’s first Hilton Garden Inn

Hilton has launched a new hotel and with it a new hotel brand, and has selected Luton as its first location.

The Hilton Garden Inn in Luton is the first of the company’s Garden Inn hotels to open in the UK and marks Hilton’s first move into the mid-priced sector in Britain.

The Garden Inn brand – already popular in the US and with some 400 properties worldwide - is aimed primarily at business travellers and offers free wi-fi, a free business centre, free gym and a 24-hour ‘Pavillion Pantry’, which offers snacks and ready made meals around the clock.

Luton Airport sees increase in Ryanair routes

Luton Airport has announced seven new Ryanair routes; the new Ryanair flights will start from October 27th.

The seven new flights from Luton Airport will bring the total number of destinations served by the Dublin based Ryanair from Luton Airport to 20.

Ryanair passengers will now be able to travel to the following destinations from Luton Airport:Beziers (two weekly); Biarritz (three weekly); Rzeszow (two weekly) and Szczecin (three weekly); Trapani(three weekly); Kaunas (three weekly) and Derry.

Natalie Raper from Luton Airport said: “We are delighted to announce these new routes with Ryanair”

Luton Airport’s route network now covers over 95 destinations, Raper added.

Luton Town re-sign Kevin Nicholls from Preston North End

Midfielder Kevin Nicholls has left Preston North End and rejoined his former club Luton Town on free transfer.

The 29-year-old arrived at Deepdale in June 2007, from Leeds United in a £750,000 deal and was made club skipper following the departure of Graham Alexander but later gave up the captaincy.

He made a total of 18 starts and two substitute appearances for Preston.

Luton Airport stacking plan to be reconsidered.

Stacking plans for aircraft waiting to land at Luton Airport that would see thousands of aircraft stacked in the Huntingdonshire skies look likely to be reconsidered.

NATS have just completed a four month consultation period over the proposal and it has been announced that it will be reviewed. A NATS spokesman has confirmed that the reviewing of the plans does not mean that they will not go ahead.

The proposed stacking system would see aircraft stacking at 7,000 ft. and above with local residents fearing that the noise and disturbance will spoil their way of life in areas such as Juntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire. Blog is proudly powered by WordPress
